Gaia Arkitekter består av et nettverk av små selvstendige, samarbeidende arkitektkontorer som har spesialkompetanse innen økologisk forsvarlige byggemetoder og planlegging.
Gaia Arkitekter har alltid hatt som mål å finne de beste løsninger på økologisk forsvarlig bygging og planlegging.
Gaia Arkitekter har en helhetlig tilnærming, og fremmer enkle, passive løsninger til komplekse miljøutfordringer. Grunnlaget har vært å promotere kretsløpshuset, sunne hus med økologisk forsvarlige materialer og naturlig ventilasjon. Bygninger som er tilpasset sted og klima, og de menneskene som skal bo og leve i bygningene.
Gaia Arkitekter har siden 1980 bygget en praksis med prosjektering, planlegging, idèutvikling, forskning og undervisning. Prosjektene omfatter: boliger, hytter, boligområder, barnehager, skoler, småindustri, rehabilitering av bygårder, landbruksbygg og samfunnshus. I tillegg kommer planlegging av hage- og landskapsanlegg, skolegårder, boligområder og byøkologiske prosjekter. De har også erfaring med planarbeid, og er ettertraktede konsulenter for større kontorer, planer og prosjekter. Gaia Arkitekter har gjennom sin virksomhet bl.a. vært med å fremme og utvikle Økosamfunnsprosjekter, Permakultur i Norge samt jord- og halmbyggemetoder.
Gaia Arkitekter utfører forskningsprosjekter og benyttes som konsulenter innen spesialområder som økologisk forsvarlige byggemetoder, inneklima, naturlig ventilasjon, byøkologi mm. Gaia Arkitekter tilbyr også prosessledelse for verksteder som skal sikre miljøinnhold og brukermedvirkning.
Medlemmene har utgitt en rekke bøker, hefter og artikler om bygningsøkologi og vært aktive i offentlige debatter om alt fra tekniske bygningsforskrifter til kritikk av høyhus. De benyttes som foredragsholdere og kursledere i ulike fora både nasjonalt og internasjonalt.
Gaia Arkitekter samarbeider med Gaia Scotland og Gaia Ecotecture i Irland, og har et bredt internasjonalt kontaktnett gjennom Gaia Internasjonal - som består av ledende arkitekter innen økologisk planlegging og bygging i Europa.

Gaia architects have a holistic approach, and strive to find the simplest and most passive solutions to complex environmental challenges. The basis for Gaia has been to promote the eco-cycle house, healthy buildings, with ecologically sound materials and natural ventilation systems. Buildings designed to adapt to the local place and climate, and to the people who are going to live and work in the buildings.
Gaia Architects have since the early 1980s developed experience within ecologically sound design, planning, research and education. Projects range from housing, cottages, housing areas and eco vilages, kindergartens, schools, small industry, renovation of existing buildings including appartment buildings, farm buildings, cultural and community centres, to gardens and landscapes, school gardens, and urban ecology projects. Gaia Architects have also developed and promoted eco-village projects, permaculture in Norwayand clay- and strawbale building. They are also experienced planners and are sought after consultants for larger offices, plans and projects.
Gaia Architects have done research work, and are used as consultants for, particular themes like ecologically sound building materials, indoor climate, narural ventilation and urban ecology. Gaia Architects also deliver facilitation processes for workshops to secure the environmental content of projects, and the participation of stake holders.
